Random question: I may have asked before, but have you explored MuseScore as a writing software choice?

If not, I think you would find it an amazing app - absolutely free.

I’m aware of MuseScore. I’ve used Finale for over 30 years and have recently, reluctantly switched to Dorico because Finale quit. I use those for my full orchestral / piano scores.

ABC is really the ideal format for this project. Though I could do these in Finale, Dorico OR MuseScore, it would make the whole process more time consuming and create a folder of 365 files instead of the one text file archive created by ABC. It doesn’t take long to enter a score, it plays it back reasonably well, and even better, it keeps everything together in a single text file archive. An entire year’s worth of tunes resides in a text file that is less than 1MB in size. This is why it’s the go-to format for archiving fiddle & folk tunes online.

A film scoring buddy of mine uses Dorico as well and loves it. We used Digital Performer, Pro-Tools, Sibelius etc. I still have a copy of MOTU Composer! Well, whatever your preference, I am inspired by your output.

I have MOTU composer but abandoned it in favor of Ableton live, principally because it totally mangled a project I was deep into.

It's a shame Finale is no longer supported because I know that program inside and out and there isn't a thing I can't do smoothly with it. I'm not happy having to start over with Dorico though I can see it does streamline some tasks that were tedious in Finale.

I'm glad you like my stuff - I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,500 tunes like these - it's kind of crazy.

My son and I started doing musical round-robins. It has turned into a true delight for me to discover how he and I “converse” musically. Definitely throw each other curve balls, and sometimes we are each very pleasantly surprised by the collaboration.

I think it was John Kennedy (*not* the 35 President) who said something about breaking eggs to make an omelet in a rambling monologue to explain Felon47s strategies.

We know this destruction of our democracy is of a purpose.

They'll get the omelet; we'll get the shells...if we're lucky.
