Taking A Break
Today marks one year since I started this blog. I’ve posted 365 tunes, nearly eight hours of music if each tune was played end to end. I’m taking a short break.
If you think I’m being lazy, keep in mind I started, rather restarted this routine two years ago, so there is, in addition to everything you’ve seen posted here, an additional years worth of tunes preceding these, another 365 tunes, and that’s not counting the nearly 450 I did the first time round in 2012.
Right now I can use the extra time. I’m getting ready for the mandolin orchestra I direct, MOOKC, to host this years annual convention of the Classical Mandolin Society of America. This involves a lot of music preparation as well as rehearsals and preparing presentations. Other projects are taking my time as well.
My plan is to resume posting Jan 1 2023, which is a more sensible date to count up from anyway, so keep an eye on this spot for daily tunes to resume then. In the meantime, I’ll continue to post the odd piece of music and / or rant here once in a while, just not daily.
If you’re interested, I‘ve compiled a PDF containing everything posted so far. I’ll be happy to share this with whomever is interested, along with a dropbox link to all the mp3’s and a copy of the original ABC file which one can have fun with if they want to change voices or tempo. These files will contain a few extra tunes that weren’t posted here.
If you would like this material then I’m requesting a donation to my PayPal account - pcdewalt@gmail.com - in the amount of whatever you like, whatever you think it’s worth. It doesn’t matter. I figure access to these files ought to be worth more than zero.
All the music posted over the course of this past year will remain online for as long as Substack remains available, so if you want to access the music here instead, it will continue to be available until it’s not for whatever reason - the internet isn’t forever.
I leave you with one of the longer tunes from the first year I did this, July 22, 2012, 229 - The Relentless Heat which, considering the weather lately, seems apt. This tune was arranged into both a bagatelle for solo piano, Scarf Dance, and the final section of my orchestral composition Ignatius Wishes He Could Dance. It’s one of the few tunes that took up more than one page. Hope you find it interesting!
Thanks for checking out Tuna Day and look for more soon!
