A Change in the Blog
You will notice I’ve changed the title of this blog. The original title “Tuna Day” was a one-off bad pun that kind of stuck. If I’m going to keep this up, something has to give.
While I enjoy the routine of composing something fresh every day, the simple fact is it can be a real pain in the ass always having to come up with some kind of plausible tune every day of the year then setting it in ABC, recording it, uploading it, crossposting to Facebook, then seeing if anybody gives a rats ass.
Then there’s the backlog. In case you didn’t know, what I did last year was actually the third time I’ve composed a daily tune for a year. The first time was in 2012 as I was gearing up to go back to UMKC to earn my DMA in composition, the 2nd time was in 2021, the year before I started posting this blog (when I got to the end of the first year I decided if I was going to continue this self abuse I might as well start posting them online.
I still have over 700 compositions from these two periods that have not seen the light of day.
So, for my own sanity and to get some use out of my “catalogue,” I’ve decided there is no need for me to compose new music every day going forward. I already know I can do that.
I will still compose and post fresh music, but I am ALSO going to pull music from the first two batches of compositions and post those as well. You’ll know that’s what they are because I will keep the original dates on them and I’ll make a point of pointing this out in the body of the blog somewhere.
Every once in a while I will post other pieces that aren’t necessarily lead sheets, just to break it up a little more.
I still plan to post something every day be it fresh or older content.
Tuna or Tuna knot, that is the question.
