364 - Entropy via Injury
Earlier today my wife asked me if I had any New Years resolutions planned. I didn’t, but I now have a resolution for the remainder of the year - no more injuries.
Tonight the wholly innocuous & easily achieved task of getting out of the car seemed to elude me. As a gift of brown bread I was carrying slipped from my right hand while closing the car door, it managed to shut it upon my right hand thumb - right ON the cuticle. It didn’t slam, it just gently clasped shut, but that was enough to send an excruciating and surprising jolt of pain up my arm. I was able to open the door immediately, but not before mashing the poor thumb, which I’m rather fond of and use all the time. The good news is I don’t think I broke it, but the bad news is after looking at it my wife is pretty much convinced I’m going to lose the nail - great.
So now I’ve reached a state of entropy with injuries on both sides of my body, one foot, one hand. I’m determined to make it the rest of the year without further incident.
One of the reasons today’s piece is a bit more simple and straightforward is because I have to use my thumb to hold a pen to write the music and wanted to minimize using it. Typing doesn’t seem to be too bad so far but my new trackball, which is thumb-driven, is another story. The bandage on my thumb just slides over it - no friction.
