350 - One Catastrophe After Another

The title was originally intended to describe all the latest crazy going on in government today (I really miss having a president) but it turns out it was mostly inauspicious for me during the process of typesetting todays tune.

For starters, as soon as I set the first phrase I went to audition it, which I normally do. No sound emerged from the computer speakers. Sometimes my system has difficulty switching from the mixers audio to the internal speakers so I turned the mixer on and tried again. After an explosion of sound from the monitors my screen switched to the log-on screen which is bizarre because my computer automatically logs on to my account and I rarely see this screen. So now I had to log in again.

As expected, after getting the computer up and running again (a process that takes way too long with my system) I’d lost all the work and had to start over. I really dislike having to repeat myself. At least it only lost the 1st phrase instead of the entire piece.

All throughout setting it glitches continuously occurred. Sometimes key strokes were ignored, sometimes the mouse froze and started selecting huge swaths of text. It took way too long to set this.

The worst, though, was when it was finished and on the desktop putting the recording and the PDF in the correct folders my mouse selected the entire folder of tunes, all the work I’ve posted so far this year, refused to deselect them, and then moved them to a completely different folder which I didn’t notice at first and certainly against my wishes, and THEN complained when I went to move them back, forcing me to assure it I meant it.

It’s been a day. Glad to get this out finally.

Edit: it’s a day now since I’ve posted it and this post is still somewhat cursed. I can look at statistics on all my posts a few hours after they go live, all of them except this one. Here it is, nearly 24 hours later and the statistics are empty with the helpful alert “No Results” and a message to the effect that sometimes it takes a few hours before they appear. I’m wondering if anybody is even seeing this post.
