343 - Third Time's the Charm
My typical working method for these tunes, which I’m starting to think of now as more akin to a daily comic strip in the form of sheet music than anything else, if that makes any sense, is I will sketch it out sitting in my easy chair late in the evening, play it on the piano, make small edits if need be (a process I refer to as polishing a turd), then set it and post it, either that same evening or the next morning, unless…
…it sucks too much to fix, in which case I discard it and start over. Usually that’s enough.
It wasn’t last night. I composed two stink bombs in a row, so feeling a bit dejected I went to bed and wrote the one you see now this morning. While it might not be one of my better pieces, it’s at least plausible, so I’m letting it go.
I’ve noticed titles seem to have an influence on the number of views a piece gets. I considered yesterday’s piece (The Pedometer) to be one of my better ones, yet it’s gotten only a handful of views while Funny Looking Dogs has done quite well.
Sometimes I struggle coming up with titles, but I try to make them relevant to something that happened to or around me recently, and more and more I try to reflect it in the music.
I’ve been promoting this as a slightly sarcastic diary in the form of sheet music. I think that’s pretty close.
