You wouldn’t think stepping on such an innocuous item would result in a fracture of the fifth metatarsal, but you would be wrong.
Allegedly these are the most common of fractures, usually occurring after rolling over on the ankle (exactly what happened). Technically, the cause for the injury is avulsion of the metatarsal base due to the attachment of the plantar fascia. Lovely.
I’ve got a big ugly boot. When I put it on I feel like Frankenstein’s monster. I don’t know why these are supposed to make me more mobile as I can barely walk in the stumpy thing. This coming Monday they’re going to decide on further treatments, if any, but the limited online research I’ve done says most likely I’ll be wearing this damn boot for another six weeks.
