303 - Gamekeeper's Thumb
It’s back, my Gamekeeper’s Thumb.
I’ve had this before. Luckily it’s the same thumb as before and I still have the two braces that, as long as I wear them, will eventually relieve me of this nuisance.
It’s a small tearing or irritation of the ulnar collateral ligament at the base of the thumb. Certain movements of the thumb will make it hurt. For example, it makes it nearly impossible to flash a peace symbol with the afflicted hand without one finger curling.
Its curious name comes from the fact that this is an issue that often afflicts people that wring a lot of chickens by their necks. I’m not kidding. It’s also sometimes referred to as Skier’s Thumb, but that’s not nearly as interesting as Gamekeeper’s.
