294 - Brother Theodore March for the 20th Anniversary of September 11
Brother Theodore was a bizarre, pessimistic stream of consciousness “comedian” popular, if such his fame can be called, from the 1950’s thru his death in April of 2001. He was a lifelong resident of New York. His death was a few month before 9/11.
This piece was composed on the 20th anniversary of that event. I’m posting it now because it’s no longer possible to post in on the appropriate date anyway so I might as well, plus, I think it turned out interesting enough to justify sharing.
I tagged the title with Brother Theodore because the events of that day would not have surprised him, such was his gloomy outlook.
Some quotes: The best thing is not to be born. But who is as lucky as that? To whom does it happen? Not to one among millions and millions of people.
And: I’ve gazed into the abyss and the abyss gazed into me, and neither of us liked what we saw.
Lastly: “In this best of all possible worlds, everything is in a hell of a mess.”
