234 - The Right Bait
As much as possible I try to give these pieces titles that have relevance to things going on in my life at the precise time I composed them. Often this results in incongruous titles that have little meaning to anyone besides me, which is why I’ve started adding more commentary to these posts.
In this case I’m trying to figure out what bait to put in the traps I’ve set for whatever it is that has decided the pawpaws now falling in my yard are tasty treats. I wouldn’t mind sharing them with the local critters, but they have the obnoxious habit of taking a few bites out of every single fruit on the ground. They could just grab one and enjoy it, but no, they mangle all the fruit. I consider this to be rude.
So I’m trying to capture whoever or whatever it is that’s doing it (not to kill the poor critter, but to take it far away and release it) but unfortunately, whoever is responsible only considers freshly fallen fruit as suitable for its sophisticated pallet. It’s not interested in fruits that have already had a few bites taken out of it, which is what I’ve been using so far. It considers that fruit as used and unsuitable for consumption. It’s all quite annoying.
