201 - Roll Over Ionică

I’m kind of just dialing it in today as it turns out when it comes to covid I’m not asymptomatic after all. Feeling pretty miserable. I tested positive but wasn’t experiencing any symptoms, but that was only for a day or so.

This tune reminded me a little of some of the melodies covered by the virtually unknown in America but famous globally accordionist Ionică Minune with the exception it isn’t nearly as florid. I wasn’t going to link to one of his videos on youTube but I recommend you look them up yourself. He performs in a style known as lăutareasca, which is, essentially, a form of highly virtuosic Romanian folk music. Lautareasca music is complex and elaborate, with dense harmonies and refined ornamentations, and its execution requires virtuosic technique.
