196 - Melancholy Serenade
I had a piece I’d composed for today but after 24 hours of the nightmarish drama that substitutes for living in America today in the first quarter of the 21st century I couldn’t post it so instead substituted this, admittedly not very good ABC performance of a piece I’d composed for cello. This was used as the basis of the 2nd movement for my Three Midwest Dramas (II - Under the Necropolis) for orchestra and seems appropriate for the hopelessness for the future I don’t think I’m alone in experiencing.
For the last month it’s been bad news, claw back, more bad news, claw back then even more bad news, rinse and repeat. I don’t think we as a nation can continue to experience this and maintain our collective sanity.
I don’t think we are. Something’s gotta give.
If you can find a cellist to play this while you improvise the chords on piano, it’s not too bad a piece.
I’ve amended this post with a recording of the 2nd movement of the orchestral suite, "Three Dramas” - II - Under the Necropolis. This was recorded April 8, 2014 in a performance by the UMKC Orchestra.
