Please do not be concerned - I am not suicidal, never have been, never will be, that’s not what the title is about.
Today I was listening to a podcast and heard it again, a trigger warning that the following story contained a description of suicide, and I thought, since when did hearing about suicide become something we have to be warned about ahead of time?
The first time I noticed this was a few years ago while watching a youTube video and noticing they’d censored the word on both the audio and closed captioning. I was genuinely puzzled.
We are exposed to depictions of all kinds of ghastly, disgusting stomach turning crimes in fiction and the news, but somehow suicide is a step too far? What am I missing here?
