Being required to do something I believe is a pointless waste of time annoys me. As an example, being stopped by a traffic light in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere having to wait for nobody to use the cross street. It takes willpower on my part not to be a scofflaw and just proceed on through the intersection. I’ll admit, sometimes I do.
Way more annoying is our bi-yearly clock torture where we’re required to pointlessly and needlessly reset our clocks back and then ahead an hour, doing who knows how much long-term damage to our biological clocks for no good reason at all. I remember well the first time this happened in 1970 when I was 16. After a lifetime (up to that point) of time being a constant, changing the clock was highly disorienting. We’ve become used to it now, but at that time it seemed surreal. This can’t be good for us.
And, there’s a much simpler fix for those wanting more daylight at the end of their work day, go to work an hour earlier! Unfortunately this simple solution rubs many people the wrong way. Tell folks to get up an hour early and they rebel, tell them to move the clock an hour later and they just comply.
I say if we’re stuck with fiddling with the clock then move it back two hours and leave it that way. The worst time of day for me is the morning. This way no matter how early I have get up it’s not really all that early, biologically speaking anyway. Let the people who want more daylight in the evening go to work two hours earlier!
Five Likes if I could. I too have many problems with Mornings. As a young person, I felt sick each and every morning for school. As a person getting older, and caring for my mother, I frequently have to be across the city for an 8am appt. I can only succeed if I'm planning all week, and awake all night prior.
In an age where traffic signals have sensors, there is no excuse for a light which ties you up for a minute for nobody at all. I know where all of the bad signals are, and attempt to get through them before they stop me for nobody. Again. I wish my eyes were sharper, since all signals have countdown timers for the pedestrian lights. Should I speed up, or slow down? Is it blinking 9-8-7 or 4-3-2?
Finally, I really enjoyed this melody. I was able to sing (hum) with the playback. In 7/2 time? Thank You.
Delightful! Captures the feelings that many of us have toward the change into and out of Daylight Saving Time
