074 - Gravel Guards and Shoe Strings
Long drive home from the CMSA convention in Kalamazoo, MI. Forty miles from home we pulled into a convenience store to use the facilities and were greeted with a terrible noise as we slowed down. Upon inspection the gravel guard under the engine had come loose and was literally bent in the middle and dragging on the ground. I’m guessing we didn’t hear it at the faster speeds because the air was keeping it from dragging on the pavement. No wonder we were getting such poor mileage on the way home!
Luckily they had a rod with a hook on the end, which I was unable to figure out what it was for, that helped me succeed in pulling the hunk of plastic back into an unfolded state, and with the help of one of Teresa’s shoelaces, I was able to tie it to the grill and we made it home okay.
What a trip.
