034 - Banshee in the Bardo
Some may find this obnoxious but it was an experiment in seeing just how flexible ABC would be in notating and playing back complex rhythmic subdivisions.
Turns out, it isn’t very good at it.
It will subdivide a beat or a note length into tuplets, quintuplets, or whatever I need, however, it won’t nest them, i.e., I can’t take one of the beats of my subdivision and subdivide it further, even simple subdivisions don’t work.
That leaves out complicated pieces like Stockhausen’s Klavierstück!:
That’s not gonna happen in ABC!
Here’s the original:
I had to simplify the rhythm in several places to get it to work. Oh well!
For those wondering about the title it’s a riff on the outstanding book Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders, a pert-near life changing book.
