Hearing loss is not entertaining in the least, however, sometime hearing aids will pick up sounds most of us routinely ignore.
I have several clocks in my studio. Two of them tick loudly enough that my hearing aids present them to me as if they are sounds I should be paying attention to.
Sometimes paying attention to them IS entertaining in a Steve Reich kind of way. They definitely have a rhythmic pattern that literally creates a kind of antiphonal hocket, however, if you listen to them for a while, the patterns morph in a minimalist music / Steve Reich kind of way.
This piece in no way is trying to imitate that. Perhaps I’ll try someday.
My mother complains that only the buzz of fluorescent lights comes through her hearing aids with reliable clarity. We talk, she can't hear, she puts it in. we repeat, she still cannot hear, she takes it out. While she has two, she prefers just one; either one.
