018 - How Did I Get Here?

I have no answer to the existential question posed by the title of this tune.

This was used in a song cycle as the chipper first song requiring the singer to strum a ukulele while singing. The 2nd song took a dark turn and the 3rd one went Ambrose Bierce level dark with crushingly dissonant piano gestures.

It really was a dark, depressing work. I guess it’s a good thing it was never performed!

Though many tunes in this collection have changes of key, they’re typically for the B sections. Pretty sure this is the only one where the key change is reserved for the return of the A section.

The recording has some artifacts I simply couldn’t get ABC to behave and perform it without them. If I can extrude a clean version I’ll fix the post and remove this note.
