013 - The Catch-up Game

An exercise in double pedal points. The bass note is always a C, however, the melody continuously interpolates a G between notes and this never changes throughout the different harmonies. This is a method that can create really abrasive dissonances yet still sound relatively tonal.

This became part of the 3rd movement of the suite Coming Attractions, of which number 004, Melancholy Carnivals was also used as part of the first movement. The third movement was titled Coulrophobia - the fear of clowns.
